Hole in my heart

Sunday, April 13, I had to make the impossible decision to euthanize my friend and companion of nearly 13 years. Nada, my German Short-hair/Queensland dog spent her entire life with me. She supported me and gave me stability, security, companionship, love and a laugh every day. I made it through the death of my husband, Mom, Dad, loss of finances and several moves with her steady at my side. I say, "Romp free and unhindered in heaven, my girl". She deserves a "Job well done" in her honor. I guess now it is up to me to stand on my own. How to face each day is still unanswered for me, but I strive knowing she would hate to see me so sad. Part of my heart will never mend. She was the most exceptional and smartest dog I have ever known. This fact is confirmed by all who knew and loved her. All I have left to hold is her blanket and collar. Her memories are more than I can count and they flood me with tears and even a smile now and then.

I understand your pain ravenridge, I recently lost my beloved border collie/retriever mix, she was the most awesome friend, she was more than just a dog, she was a companion, a confidant, just an all around best friend. Sassy had the most kind heart, when she allowed us to adopt her we were unsure of how she would re-act to our 3 year old granddaughter, but she proved to be kind and gentle, she saved our 2 month old grandson, my daughter put him on the couch thinking that he was to young to roll, Sassy got up from where she was laying and laid down in front of the couch where my grandson was, and as soon as she did he rolled on her, it was as if she knew. I miss her so much I cry most of all the time, I am having such a hard time letting go, I know that I will have to, but right now I am not ready, she left us on April 15th..I want to know how long does it take to stop grieving?
