36 horses rescued

Blaze's Tribute Equine Rescue, Inc. assisted the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Department on September 29, 2006 in the seizure of 36 horses removed from a Spencer, Oklahoma residence. We are currently caring for all 36 horses while the owners are being prosecuted with Felony Animal Cruelty charges. We are not allowed to foster these horses out and we have to keep them all together while this case is pending. They are considered property of Oklahoma County Sheriff's Department and are evidence.

While Blaze's has already invested thousands of dollars in these horses, we just learned from the Assistant District Attorney working this case that we may have to house them for another 60 days before we gain ownership and are allowed to adopt them out. As you can imagine our funds are depleting fast. We only have 50 round bales of hay left and then we are going to have to find more to purchase and hay is already limited now due to the drought that we suffered over the summer. Our grain truck is nearly empty as well.

Of the 36 horses rescued, half of them were in emaciated condition, the feet had not been trimmed in over a year and many had babies at their side. Their was also several horses with their halter embedded in their face. Their is 6 studs included. Blaze's Tribute Equine Rescue is seeking donations in order to continue the rehabilitation process of these 36 horses. Once we gain ownership, we will have to get all the studs gelded, their is 4 horses with hernia's that will require surgery to repair and we need to have a lot of these mares teeth floated. We still have 23 horses that need to have their feet trimmed. We did get the emergency ones completed. Below you can see a few pictures of the horses that we are rehabilitating.
