I had a female 1 1/2yr old papillon, just last sunday i was told i either fork out 2,000+ or i will have to put her down. She has never had any signs of being sick, ever. and i was told" you have a very sick pup!" basically i left for a while and to return home to seeing my dog seizing. she looked like she had been stuck in her pet bed, her paw seemed to be stuck in one position under her body and her paw hanging on the side alomst looked like she had a stroke. i rushed her to arrow animal hospital in glendale, arizona. I find out that the dr. thought this was either something genetic, or possible MENENGITIS, ENSEPHILITIS, or VALLEY FEVER. the dr. kept telling me of how expensive this surgery would be to repair her broken leg, which happened during the seizure. and to give her anti convulsan meds. and that she could go home and have another one, and re-break her leg and be in the same position again. I understood that. however she also kept mentioning to me, of how just 10 days prior they EXTENDED me credit for my cat to have a c-section to get 2 stuck kittens out. and how i still had a remaining balance of more than 500.00 and i would have to pay that balance off before they would even touch my papillon. i had even asked what about doing blood work just to eliminate any thing. she still would not do it, even tho the 3 other diseases which mosquitoes carry, which if bella (my pap) had, if my children got bit they would get deathly ill as well, if not fatal. we have had a bad mosquito problem outside our apartment since last sept, and i told her i believed this is what the problem was, but just not willing to do any testing. I was told i had to pay the remaining balance, then pay what the cost of the surgery would be upfront then we'd beable todo the blood work, spinal tap, ect. and i had mentioned to her how i have 2 little children, we live on one small income, and we'd only beable to make payment arrangements, i wanted to save my girl, but the dr. was really unwilling. the next thing she mentioned of how "well she's not your daughter, she's not your child, she's not this and not that", and i had to break in and state OK, BUT she is a part of my family. all of this just makes me doubt what should have been done. Should i have pushed to have her tested, even if it cost court fee's ect. and just kept her comfterble until this could have been done, they did not even offer to keep her body so testing could be done afterwards. i had called the health dept, the next morning, to find out, because of my two children, and because the dr. even suspected the menengitis, ensephilitis, and valley fever, that she should have not worried about the cost of that, and just done the testing. and we could not exsume my puppy's body which had been only buried hours prior to do even a spinal tap, blood work because her body had to be preserved. so now we have nothing to go on, but to get mosquitoes tested. which might cost me money. To ease my mind, if this was a situation you were in, what would you have done, if you wouldn't have had the money upfront as vetranarians wanted? I did have to put her down, which in the back of my mind makes me feel it was the best thing for her, but with the testing, my gut just tells me it was NOT genetic, and i should have done the testing, and now im wondering if i can go back on the dr. and go to the board of vetranarians about this? and if it was one of those diseases, then i could go back on my apartment complex for not taking care of my muddy area infront of my apartment and the mosquitos when i first complained about it last sept. i just need advice. this whole thing has me more upset than i already should be. i am already sick with the loss of my pup. this testing situation just has me even worse. could all of this been avoided? please help me!!!!!!!
